There are FIVE processesing station in a prodcution system: P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5. The times taken at each process are as follows 2 minutes, 6 minutes, 4 minutes, 9.4 and 13 minutes. Job request inflow rate is 16 per hour and jobs requests are accepted for six hours only. The systems closes after all accepted jobs have been completed, that is at the closing there are no unfinished jobs in the system.

The system capacity =   /hour

The average waiting time in the system in minutes is =  minutes

The throughput time of the system is =  minutes

The average inventory in the system is =   jobs

The average waiting time before P2 =  minutes

The average waiting time before P3 =  minutes

The average waiting time before P4 =  minutes

The average waiting time before P5 =  minutes

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Station P5 has the maximum time = 13 minutes

Therefore, cycle time = 13 minutes

The system capacity = 60/13 = 4.62 per hour

Number of jobs waiting to be processed at the end of six hours = 6*(16-4.62) = 68.3

The average waiting time in the system = 68.3*13/2 = 444 minutes

The Throughput time of the system = 2+6+4+9.4+13 = 34.4 minutes

The average inventory in the system = 68.3/2 = 34.15 jobs

The average waiting time before P2 = 6*(16*6-60)/2 = 108 minutes

The average waiting time before P3 = 6*(16*4-60)/2 = 12 minutes

The average waiting time before P4 = 6*(16*9.4-60)/2 = 271.2 minutes

The average waiting time before P5 = 6*(16*13-60)/2 = 444 minutes

MOMENT OF INERTIA LAB Apparatus Only (P3) With Masses (P4) With Block (P5) Setup You have a T-shaped apparatus that can spin about a vertical axis. One end of a light string is wrapped around the vertical shaft of the apparatus. The other end passes over a pulley and has a known mass hung from it to establish tension in the string. By measuring the acceleration of the hanging mass, the rotational inertia of the apparatus can be determined. Specifically,...
