The gap helps in identifying the deviation between the current behaviour of the system and the desired behaviour of the system. The system objectives are then developed in a way so as to bridge the knowledge gap. The gap also helps in evaluating the current business methodology followed by the system. If the gap is wide, this means that the current business methodology is not appropriate and some changes need to be incorporated. Hence, gap identification is quite critical to facilitate the success of the system.
