Children in Disasters and Disaster Recovery
What are some of the considerations that the Emergency Manager must take into account during the recovery phase of a disaster (relating to public and individual assistance)? Why are these areas important? Provide a minimum of three examples.
RECOVERY PHASE INCLUDES BOTH THE SHORT AS WELL AS LONG TERM ACTIVITIES THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AFTER A DISASTER. THE SHORT TERM ACTIVITIES INCLUDE TEMPORARY HOUSES, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, REPAIR OF INFRASTRUCTURE. LONG TERM ACTIVITIES INCLUDE RECONSTRUCTURING OF NOT ONLY PHYSICAL AND ECONOMIC BUT ALSO SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE. GEOSPATIAL ACTIVITIES CAN HELP THE MANAGERS TO COLLECT INFORMATION AND DO ANALYSIS WHICH CAN DIRECT THE RECOVERY PROCESS INCLUDING TRACKING THE PROGRESS OF REPAIRS, IDENTIFYING SITES FOR THE HOUSING , LOCATING POPULATION AND LOCATING THE STATUS OF OPERATIONS OF HOSPITALS. ANOTHER IMPORTANT TASK IS TO CAPTURE AND ARCHIV THE DATA COLLECTED ALONG WITH THEIR COPIES OR DESCRIPTIONS SO THAT THE DATA IS NOT LOST.
