This is a quote from Theo Epstein, GM of the Chicago Cubs in a brief article by Jesse Rogers on ESPN on the day the Cubs were eliminated from playoff contention (late September 2019). It’s something I think we all need to hear in our lives and certainly applies to all of us…
"When you have the best possible outcome and overcome a lot of things and do some transcendent things, you grow from that because you do something you haven't done before," he said. "When you have the middle-of-the-road outcome you can always tell yourself whatever story you want to hear. It's a gray area. When you have the worst possible outcome, as we've had, it reveals everything. As painful as it can be, it creates a real opportunity to learn from it and grow."
Epstein added, "The thing that gets you excited, even in the face of this adversity, is waking up and trying to build the next Cubs, a championship team."
I agree with Epstein's opinion. Success is a reflection of hardwork and determination. However, one must not underestimate the potential of failures. They truly are the stepping stones to success. It is because of failures and one's determination to succeed, that success is finally attained.
Also, it is not only important to rise once to success, but rise back again when one has encountered failure which has made him/her reach to the lowest level in the ladder. However, it is the ability of one to overcome this failure and rise back again to being successful.
