"There are many factors that I catch myself being affected by during a shopping experience. Hawkins points out that "Marketers use their knowledge of perception to enhance strategies in a number of areas including retailing, branding, advertising, and packaging. For retailing, issues surrounding store and shelf location are important determinants of perception. For branding, issues surrounding the selection of brand names, extensions, and appropriate logos have important implications for perception. Advertising strategies and media selection are heavily influenced by considering factors that enhance exposure and attention. Packaging is a functional aspect of products, but also perceptual in that it can capture consumer attention and influence their brand interpretations". "Brand imaging refers to the schematic memory of a brand, it is what people think of and feel when they hear or see a brand name." (Hawkins) This is big for me. Whether I have seen some sort of commercial, ad or other marketing strategy towards a brand, subconsciously I am more likely to buy that certain product. Familiarity plays a huge role in purchasers decisions. As an example, Doritos have always been something we keep in our house (I know they're not the healthiest.. shame). Their commercials always make me laugh, the packaging is bright and attracts the eye, they are always conveniently placed at the ends of aisles at the grocery stores, and my family loves the taste."
It is agreeable that the way a product is marketed, a brand name is chosen and the way a product is placed effects the choices of consumers. We often get attracted to ads that are close to ur choices and that reflect our nativity. When we go shopping we go for products that are easy to locate and we even go for some products just because they are packed in a neat manner or their packing is beautiful. Some products have an attractive logo while some have a good taste which makes us go for them repeatedly . We have some brand names which are enough to make us buy the product even when the product is not so good . All these points shows how much effect all these factors such as advertising, media selection, branding , packaging etc., related each of the given field have on our behavior as a customer . They definately play a huge role in our purchasing decisions.
