Discuss the status of Home economics in contemporary education in Ghana.

When we talk about the subject of Home Economics in Ghana, it is seen as the most important program for the different households and families so that they can improve their lives and overcome the problem of poverty. There are many individuals in Ghana who treat the subject of home economics as the subject in which on learning how to make perfect gravy, cake baking, and sewing the aprons. In most of the cases, the subject of Home Economics is seen as a conspiracy to ensure that females are confined within the houses and this notion has really tarnished the possibility that this wonderful subject could present to the population as it could help in bringing the science in the home management, farm management and placing the women in the higher education and leadership roles in the various academic, educational and industrial fields.

In the opinion of most off the students and teachers, the subject of Home Economics is not of much importance and it has a low status and it is seen as a female-oriented subject. The funds that are diverted towards the Home Economics practical are used to buy the science equipment and other different types of items, In most of the cases, the students are switched from Home Economics program to the other programs by their parents so that they can have better grades and career opportunities.
