watch any speech from youtube :As you review a speech for this week’s discussion, one tip I can give is to watch the speech once without the sound. This will enable you to watch nonverbals and mannerisms without becoming distracted by the words. After watching the speech of your choice,
What are your three greatest takeaways?
What mannerisms did the speaker give that you didn’t
like?
How can you use this information in your own
presentations?
Answer:
Three greatest takeaways are:
1. The speaker was maintaining continuous eye sight while speaking. This has made me to watch the speech with more attention.
2. Speaker was continuously moving his hands so as to express his feelings along with the sentences that he was speaking. This helped in understanding of the feelings of the speaker.
3. Speaker was taking short and long pause while delivering the speech as per the need. This helped in grasping each of the sentences of the speaker according the complexity of the sentences and ideas behind those sentences.
A mannerism of the speaker that I don’t like was his excessive hands movement. Hand movement while speaking is necessary to understand the feelings of the individual, but when it becomes excessive, it distracts.
In my own presentation, I would take care that I maintain needed eye contact with my audience and would talk to all of the audience by addressing each of the part of the presentation hall. I would move my hands whenever it is needed in a controlled manner i.e. not much of the movement and not least of the movement. I would modulate my voice and would take the needed pause whenever and wherever it is required to keep my audience focused.
