Answer 1:
Having a limited understanding of organizational behaviour at the beginning, one thing that I find surprising about the content of organizational behaviour is that just like people organizations also have different, size, shape, culture, values and ethos.
Organization behaviour is the study and implementation of knowledge and facts regarding groups and individuals and the manner they act within their workplace. It is important to have knowledge about organization behaviour because it directly influences attitude of individuals and their job performance.
Learning about organization behaviour and its content like motivation and personality is important because it makes us more engaged and efficient organizational member.
Answer 2:
I believe that my understanding of the organizational behaviour will be useful in moving forward in my profession (recruitment executive) in following manner:
· It has improved my people management skills: By implementing my learning from OB and the perspective or set of tools that I have developed, I now carry my job more effectively.
· It will improve my decision making capability: After having thorough understanding of organizational behaviour, I can understand human behaviour under organizational setting and the individual-organization interface. This understanding helps me in taking better decisions.
· By having clear understanding of my personal needs and motives, I know which job is better for my career progression and this makes me efficient and helps me in exceling in my profession.
· After learning how to respond to situations now I have better stress control mechanism.
· I can now communicate with others in better manner.
One think that I have identified as most interesting and valuable in organization behaviour studies is McClelland’s theory of needs. McClelland has identified three motivators or drivers that influence behaviour of individual. These three drivers are Achievement (need to demonstrate own competence), Affiliation (need for social acceptance, belonging and liking), and Power (need for control). After identifying the dominant driver of individual these three drivers work magical and can influence behaviour of any individual.
Answer 3:
I work in a team of five recruiters (including me). We all report to same manager. My experience being a part of my team is fabulous. I have learnt so much in this team environment and excelled in my professional skills. Studying organizational behaviour was beneficial because:
· It helped me in understanding the reason why individuals behave in certain manner and how they can be influenced to behave in the manner that is beneficial for organization.
· It also develops an understanding of the impact environment (both internal and external) has on behaviour.
Some of the problematic aspects of my group were task interdependence, and heterogeneity.
One issue that I have encountered was that of limited access to job portal. There was one job portal access between 5 members. This literally stops work in a recruitment firm. We worked through this by dividing the duration of access to the portal.
