4. As a consumer, what responsibility, if any, do you bear for eliminating the use of child slave labor and child labor in the production of chocolate?   Does the knowledge that chocolate does not bear the Fair Trade symbol is likely to have been produced using child slave labor change how you feel about buying the product?

Answer #1

As a consumer I can exercise my rights to purchase chocolates whose manufacturer is sworn to protect children and his employees. The company must follow zero child labor rule and must be fulfilling their duties towards the society well.

This knowledge about chocolate industry being one of the industries which do not bear Fair Trade symbol is a demotivation for me to purchase chocolates. Chocolates are most loved by children, and that some children are made to suffer to make these chocolates is very disturbing .and I would certainly not purchase chocolates, until I research about the manufacturer and the production process.

Bertrand and Regan (2008) describe ethical consumption as consciously identifying the links between a product, its origins and the context in which it has been produced.
