Step 1: Define objective of the study including the statement of the use of the result, the level of precision desired, and the desired level of confidence in the results

Step 2: Verify the existence of standard methods and conditions. If the operations are going through special circumstances, wait for them to normalize

Step 3: Select operator/operations to be studied

Step 4: Articulate the standard method used, document the conditions of operation, operator, product, equipment etc. under which the study will be conducted

Step 5: Segment the operation into small elements

Step 6: Time the operators/operatoins for each of the elements for a few number of cycles

Step 7: Collect and record the data
