SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Avid Life Media is the owner of a controversial website called Ashley Madison that has than 8.5 million members. The website openly promotes infidelity, employing the following slogan: “Life is Short. Have an Affair.” The company employs hundreds of programmers, designers, and marketers and has conducted a private placement for investors. While some stakeholders might say the purpose of the website is questionable, there is nothing illegal about this business.
Consider the two following opposing positions:
1. There is nothing wrong with providing a legal service that many people desire.
2. From a stakeholder perspective, it is wrong to provide services that are socially questionable.
Please take a position on this issue and provide support for your argument.
As per the argument given above in which the main concern is about the promotion of infidelity by a company that has a slogan “Life is Short. Have an Affair.”
I would agree with the stakeholder's perspective that it is wrong to provide services that are socially questionable. Even though it is a business and there is nothing illegal about it but to be socially accepted, a business must be in favor of society and must deliver a good message. In the promotion of infidelity, the slogan is encouraging cheating, unfaithful, or having an affair. This gives a wrong message to the young and married generations as well. Such promotion and business is against the social responsibilities of the business and must not be encouraged.
