The change in the organisation needs to be taken up in a phased manner, as there is a big challenge because any change in the organisation touches almost every stakeholder ( external and internal ) and through various aspects.
A failed change effort example would be Nokia, though Nokia was slow to recognise that the customer has moved onto Android, still when it went ahead and launched products almost 5 years later the change failed abysmally. The cutsomers were not able to connect to the product, the employees saw a hige churn owing to the failed product lines and the management was not able to keep pace with the sudden launch of android with no significant value addition to the customer.
If Nokia would have implemented the chnage in a phasewise manner realiseing the chnaging demand much earlier, the whole failure could have been curbed or atleast controlled to a certain extent.
