Answer #1

Discretionary benefits are voluntray benefits provided by the firm to the employees and should not be at the consent or demand of employees. These benefits are not legally enforced and are completely provided on organization's will. Increased provision of discretionary benefits would result in increase of expectations of the employees and they consider these as mandated benefits that the firm offers and start demanding on a regular basis. This practice will result in loss of productivity and increased cost for the form which is the reason why the demands should not be considered while the firm needs to explain to employees that it will provide such benefits based on its own criteria.
