(Grounded Theory)
Identify a research question that work well with Grounded Theory Approach.
Describe study idea.
200 words only.
The general practice in research is to first have a question. Then based on the question, form various hypothesis. Next, create questionnaire to validate those hypothesis and finally report the outcome. However, with grounded theory, the process of formation of hypothesis does not exist. Based on the research question, you begin collecting data and eventually form a theory depending on the data.
A research question that could work well with grounded theory is “How does a person’s demography impact their dental healthcare?”
For this, you could begin by collecting data on respondent demography, their behavior in terms of visiting the dentist, their record of dental history in family, and their lifestyle. After collecting all these data, you could draw various inference from the data set and the sample size to theorize various aspects.
In hypothetical research approach first, you would form hypothesis such as “People with annual income of over $100,000 visit dentist at least 2 times a year for routine checkup.” However, with grounded theory, you collect the raw data and infer such theories towards the end of the study.
