if you got 3months Moving averages,3Months wighted moving averages and exponential smoothing for sales then on the basis of MAD which model will u recomended?

Answer #1

I will recommend exponential smoothing because I feel that exponential smoothing provides better result because it is actually done based on all the data provided involving the data for the initial time period till the final time period and each every forecast that we receive has relationship with the previous data actual and the forecasted data as well. I believe that this approach provides a better and defined value than the 3months Moving averages and 3Months weighted moving averages.

Q4 Which of the following statements are true regarding exponential smoothing and moving averages? Multiple Choice Exponential smoothing gives more weight to the older observation and less weight to the recent observation. Moving averages looks at values for n number of periods and exponential smoothing looks at values for all periods. Moving averages uses past values of a time series and exponential smoothing uses future values of a time series. Trend and seasonality can be present in the time series.

Observed weekly sales of ball peen hammers at the town hardware store over an eight-week period have been 14, 9, 30, 22, 34, 12, 19, 23. a. Suppose that three-week moving averages are used to forecast sales. Determine the one-step-ahead forecasts for weeks 4 through 8. b. Suppose that exponential smoothing is used with a smoothing constant of alpha = .15. Find the exponential smoothing forecasts for weeks 4 through 8. The exponential smoothing model from part b, with α=0.1, yields a mean squared error of 14.3 for this time series. If we set α equal to 0.05, the mean squared error is 15.9. If we set α equal to 0.3, the mean squared error is 10.5. Which of these three values of α (0.05, 0.1, 0.3) would be the most appropriate for predicting future weekly sales
