Can a selective perception be a barrier to effective communication?

Answer #1

Let us understand it with an exmaple

There was a time when we were having a discussion about the correctness of Holy Bible then I said that the Bible is not accurate, this made one of my friends think I was pagan, this felt so bad to me-I hated the idea. I found out about this when he was allowed to talk, he started by saying since I did not believe in God I should not even be in the discussion.I think I could have acted differently by suggesting that the bible was contradictory and i needed their help to gain more knowledge.
