In today's changing scenario, the employer's want the interviewing candidates to have all the basic skills and knowledge (like degree, communication skills, and work-exp) and then some more. Below are the ideas of new things which an employer would be looking for apart from all traditional things.

1. Initiatives (Self or Corporate): A candidate who has shown a lot of work initiatives in his profile/ resume will definitely stand out from the crowd. The initiative can be corporate like the candidate used quality improvement technique and brought a significant change in the employer’s productivity (six sigma) in his/her summer internship. A self-initiative can be done using Facebook to aware youth about the social problems like depression. A small self-initiated project with a detailed report would work there.

2. Leadership positions held: A resume which states about all the leadership positions held by the candidate in past will always be taken up first. The companies want to hire people who are leaders by trait and lead the change in today’s scenario.

3. Recommendation letters: The recommendation letter of previous employer or summer internship can be a boost to anyone’s portfolio as it helps the recruiter to understand the quality of work associated with the candidate. This section of the professional resume can stand a candidate out from the crowd.
