Answer:1
Participatory management : This is the management style in which the more involvement of employees in the decision making process and empowering employees to take the decision for the business requirements.
Our organization is a Multinational organization in automobile industry , where our organization is engaged in design, manufacturing, supply and service of the automobile products named as Turbocharger, which is required mainly for the engine manufacturers in the world market.
In our organization participatory management was used at broader level, most of the employees are empowered for decision making in the business environment. In our organization most of the team decisions were taken by the team members or team leaders with limited involvements of senior management in the decision process.
Empowering is the key concept being implemented in our organization at global level and high level of involvement of employees are encouraged in the business processes and allowing them to take the appropriate decisions for the business.
Example of Effective cases: The decision making for the program team for new product development and submitting the proto-samples on time to customer for testing. In new product development project, many small small decisions are needed to be taken during the progress of the project. Thus the project core team is empowered to take their own decisions for the project and continue the progress so that the project meets its deadline. The participative approach helped in effective time management for the team members and they are able to manage the project tasks on time.
Example of Effective cases: Use of participative management in supplier share allotment decision found to be ineffective.
In our organization, we have double supplier policy, where most of the components are sourced from two or more suppliers. Thus on monthly basis, the share for each suppliers to be allot and the confirmation to be passed to the suppliers for their monthly target.
This decision of allotment of share to suppliers was done by the respective sourcing engineer. But the sourcing engineers are allotting higher shares to their preferred supplier or the suppliers who have more influencing towards the sourcing engineer. This decision of share allotment was not carried out on the basis of actual performance of the supplier in the previous months. Thus here the participative management or empowering technique is not working well and the decisions are not being taken for the interest of the organization. The decisions are taken for the personal interest by the sourcing engineer.
