Scenario: Media Content delivery from Production Houses to
Broadcast Center
Issue: Delay in handover of final content to Broadcast center
executive.
Steps to solve the problem:
- Map out the problem using historical data. It was found that
after content had undergone final edit at Production house, it
takes approximately 60 mins to 90 mins to reach the broadcast
center via road transportation. Data was gathered for all programs
for one month.
- Identify key problem areas. It was observed that apart from
distance that separated the Production houses and Broadcast center,
the waiting period at the security gate and handover to executive
was another delay in the overall process.
- To resolve this, a six sigma project was initiated. We took the
data and created a hypothesis to check whether adding dedicated
lease line connectivity would resolve this problem.
- Proof of Concept testing was done for 1 Production house . Data
was collected for one month and it was compared with remaining
production houses which used traditional road based hard disk
delivery.
- It was observed that the media transfer was faster than other
methods and it gave a platform for executives to directly work on
the files received.
- A forecast of the data was created wherein the cost based
calculations were done to check the viability of using lease lines
in the long term.
- The statistical analysis proved that the new method gave a cost
effective solution and ensured on time delivery of content.
