Homework Answers

Answer #1

Technologies are today an integral part of life and are affecting the behavior, values, and beliefs of people, a trend that is only going to stay and even exacerbate in the future. Disruptive technologies not only cause market upheavals but also impact economies and societies that are related to the markets. While not all technologies affect the way consumers live their lives, some do. These technologies may encourage the communities to adopt new behaviors or disregard old ones, among other changes.

Disruptive technologies can affect the future of societies in good ways as well. For instance, disruptive technology can create new or more jobs, and the society and economy may also be benefitted through the use of technology. Technologies may also make the future of societies more sustainable and secure, and these may include technologies for harnessing solar energy, creating affordable yet secure houses, feeding billions and others. The good social elements will be preserved this way and the societies and communities will be more secure when the businesses understand that they need to guide technological innovations following the ethical, legal, safety, security and other relevant constraints. This will ensure that the future remains promising for all. Misdirected investments may be problematic, and when the markets and societies do not exist, the businesses would have no future as well. The catalytic innovations can be stressed upon for improving the future of societies. Catalytic innovations aim to produce simpler solutions that are meant for the underserved sections of the society and turn to be cheaper alternatives. These innovations can make the future more secure and would be able to create more economic evenness. Sustainability is one of the more important drivers of innovations, including disruptive innovations and technologies, and will remain so in the future as well. The world needs to cope with new situations such as air/ware/soil/water pollution, resource scarcities, claimant changes, aging populations, and others. Hence disruptive technologies may hold good for the future of societies, provided they are guided the right way.

Identify a disruptive innovation in healthcare (i.e. one that completely changed the market). Why was t revolutionary? How did it change healthcare? How can you be prepared for change? References please! NOTE: The concept of disruptive innovation can be confusing. It is not a better method to do something, but a new and different way that often causes the disappearance of what it replaces.
