While the flow of information has increased around the world, firms, such as Google and Yahoo!, still must compromise on what information they will provide to their customers if they are to have access to markets such as China’s. Do you think this is an appropriate compromise or not? Please respond in 250 words or more
There are two perspectives to look at this. From a customer (end-user) point of view, they do not have access to full information. The content that can be read or seen by a Chinese user is limited by Google under the directions of Chinese authorities. From a user perspective, it is not appropriate to have the content limited as the internet is a free space to explore.
On the other hand, this is a compromise that is appropriate for firms such as Google and Yahoo! China is one of the most populated countries in the world and it is a huge market for the companies. The firms have to comply with the norms of the nation, otherwise, they risk losing access to the market. Though it restricts the freedom of the user to access content, it is an appropriate business decision to continuously have access to the market.
