Ways through which a manager can improve the performance
feedback process
The feedback must be provided regularly, not just during the
annual performance appraisal
The conversation must be a two way process. Try to listen with
an open mind and with a view of understanding the concerns of the
employee. This gives the employees a sense of importance and they
will feel good that the company is interested in their well being.
Ultimately this will lead to an improvement in their
performance.
The manager must be crystal clear about the key performance
indicators of the employee. Employee must be given regular feedback
and advice about how to improve at these key performance
indicators.
It is better to tie the feedback with day to day activities and
tasks
Rather than just giving feedback, the manager must come up with
a plan of how to improve the employee's performance.
During the feedback discussion, emphasis must be put on the
strengths of the employee and what they are doing right. Then the
areas where they are lagging must be discussed.
The employee goals must be made measurable. This will make it
easy to monitor and evaluate their performance.
