The differences between mass production and the Toyota Production system
Ans. - Toyota production system works by following lean principles. That's why I am describing here the differences between mass production and lean manufacturing.
Mass production vs lean manufacturing -
Lean manufacturing is common as it is followed by every manufacturing company. It involves the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and tools to produce goods with smart working. It requires no hard working. According to lean manufacturing, only necessary goods will be made to avoid losses and storage expenditures.
But Mass production is manufacturing extra goods than exact needs/demands. The reason is when we make extra goods then there will be less time and resources required. as a result, we have extra goods in our warehouse and can supply quickly as per customer demands.
Advantages of lean manufacturing over mass production:-
1> As per lean manufacturing, I know that all goods will be sold. So there will be no wastage of goods in the lack of demands. But as per mass production process, I have to make extra goods. Then if there is no customer demand available, then I have to sell extra goods at a loss.
2> As per lean manufacturing, we use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. This software helps us to manage manufacturing process as well as external thing like raw material supply. As a result, we can make necessary goods which our customers have demanded already.
