Mintzberg says that family-run businesses should be left open to "greater" growth , meaning that the company is included in statute, relatives, or other distant family members.This is because all kids are not as big or motivated as their parents. Family feuds can also quickly lead a company into the ground, and family management should therefore be prudent when incorporating family members in management positions.

The argument that a successful person lacks real experience means that, while a person may run a successful business, he or she does not have the capacity to produce or sustain that success. For example, a competent father could create a successful company and transmit it to his son. But if the son isn't able to sustain it, the achievement is just due to the previous management 's qualifications.
