Characteristics or elements are the features of a mission statement.

Characteristics or elements of an effective mission statement:

  • Define your purpose: Your mission statement should define the purpose of your business. And should also mention how you accomplish your objectives.
  • Be specific: Don't use technical words or jargons and be specific.
  • Inspire: To make your mission statement plausible and attainable, it's important to include an inspirational element in the mission statement. Inspirational statement aspire Employees to work hard to achieve the mission.
  • Feasible: mission statement should be feasible i.e., attainable. It's good to aim high but it should not be an impossible statement.
  • It should be precise and clear: The mission statement should not be pages long neither it should be too narrow. It should be of precise size and clear. Some Companies have pages long mission statement, but it's of no use as customers won't remember this long of a mission statement.
  • Distinctive: Your mission statement should be distinct from your competitors' statement.
