What do you understand about the conflicting interests (not conflict of interest) between what is good for the greater whole as compared to the good of an individual?

Answer #1

Conflicting interest happens when two or more people or organization have different interests and their interests are not aligned.

The conflicting interest may arise due to three reasons:

  • Due to conflicting economical or monetary interests.
  • Due to apparent or actual loss of impartiality.
  • Apparent or real misuse of authority or official title for self-benefit or due to favoritism.

Example: suppose jack and Martha are hungry and want to eat cake. Jack and Martha want more part of same cake. Now, the desire for more cake is their shared interest.

Conflicting interest should not be confused with the conflict of interest in which organization and person are involved in many interested at the same time.
