Using your textbook, LIRN-based research, and the Internet, apply the learning outcomes for the week/course and lecture concepts to one of the following scenarios: As applied to your current professional career As applied to enhancing, improving, or advancing your current professional career As applied to a management, leadership, or any decision-making position As applied to a current or future entrepreneurial endeavor
Personally speaking, I understand that the week’s course was about Developing Business/IT Strategies. The chapter deals with the fundamentals of planning and how it is important to the development to business/IT strategies. The chapter also discusses the implementation challenges that arise when introducing the concept of new e-business strategies and its applications in an organization.
I am choosing the scenario- As applied to your current professional career to explain the application of the lecture concepts.
My role is a Journal Manager in my current professional career in a multinational publishing company. The role is to oversee the entire publishing process of a portfolio of journals which comprises of both scientific and health science journals. The main responsibility of the Journal Managers is planning. Planning ensures the journals are published on time in terms of schedule, content, printing and dispatching. The major competency is the proactive approach for planning and organizing to ensure uninterrupted publication of all the journals. The entire publishing process is highly cumbersome starting from the Editorial System which comprises of handling Editor queries, handling a good number of reviewers for each journal, their queries, copyright issues, plagiarisms, final decision for the manuscripts, author queries, acceptance of the article to the production process which is highly technical, handling of supplier/printer queries, resolving technical queries, coordinating with publishers, coordinating with the local application teams, etc. This extensive process involves a very high level of planning. However, when implementing these planning and organizing aspects in the process, there are many challenges such as sudden marketing content provided by the marketing manager to be published in the journals, last minute changes by the journal society, technical problems, authors’ take long time in proof reading and this affects the publishing schedule, etc. As a Journal Manager I need to be alert on the schedule so that the journals are published seamlessly.
The new e-business strategy that was implemented was Open Access (OA). OA was a growing trend at the time and all the competitors have implemented OA in their journals. To gain the competitive advantage, OA was introduced to all the journals. However, the challenges that came up are the technical difficulties and rights and permission issues in implementing in the OA journals. These challenges were overcome by the Journal Manager by coordinating with the Publishers, authors and the Publishing head.
