Only advantage of rough-cut planning procedures is that they are quick. The CRP uses significantly more information allowing a more precise calculation of capacity requirements. Key reason is that exact timing of order quantities & timing are used in calculation Examples where it might be impotent to get detail of CRP for capacity planning is in complex, highly engineered long lead time situations. When several different products or parts are competing for limited resources, it is impotent to control capacity very carefully & to be able to know of customer delivery dates may be met / if changes are need.
