Unions in the Organization: the unions in the organization are the groups of employees to have a collective discussion for the labor and employee interest in the organization. The unions also protect the misconducts of management against the labor or employees. Thus the purpose of union was to protect the labor or workers interest in the company and provide a legal platform which can have dialogue and discussion with the management for the labor and workers.

The key reason for labor unions: Following are the key reason for which the labor unions are formed as below

  • Ensure fair pay for the labors/workers
  • Ensure fair working conditions for the labors/workers
  • Ensure adequate Welfare programs for the labors/workers
  • To provide timely compensation renewal for the labors/workers
  • To avoid discriminations in the organizations
  • To provide ethical treatment/ behavior, ethical standards in the work place
  • To avoid misuse of labors/workers by the organizations.
  • To support labor/workers to get their rights in the organization.

Benefits of labor unions:

  • The labor union helps the labor/worker against the organization and provides a strong platform to have formal negotiations with the organization.
  • Unite workers/labors so that they can have collectively bargains with the organization.
  • Provide as a strong supporter for the labors/workers against the organization.

Growth of National Unions Began:

  • Initial conditions were good in organization: Initially there were no unions in the organizations. The corporate and organizations were running without unions and they were having good welfare policies for people.
  • Civil war and poor economic conditions: During the civil war, the economic conditions were poor and the cost of living was increased for people. It was becoming difficult for people to manage with the wage they are getting from organization or corporations. This creates a need for union.
  • Increase in corporations and decreased wages: The increase in number of corporation in the market and they have decreased the wages for the labor and employees, which created the need of union in the corporations.

This reasons created the need of unions in the organization and in 1986 the first national coalition of these unions was founded – The National Labor Union.

  • International brotherhood of the teamsters.

People Involved in Unions: The unions are generally made by the labors and employees in the category of workers. Initially the union was made for labors and workers only, but later the middle staff employees are also makes the union and they also forms the unions. The union generally has a team of leader which are elected by the workers or labors in the organization. The leader team of union works with management for the welfare of workers or labors.

Union Incidents: Unions started many issues and incidents in the organizations. Some of the major incidents are as below

  • Labor offs in the organizations
  • Labor strikes in the organizations
  • No increase in productivity
  • Demand for high wages in the organizations
  • No support with the managements
  • Many operational issues within the organization.
