Answer #1

I believe hands-free devices are better way of dealing the events of distraction than actually holding the smartphones to read the messages, text the concerned parties or to receive or dial calls, turn on the music system in the car, etc. Hands-free devices attempt to reduce the scope of physical movements within the car which is otherwise responsible for various fatal or non-fatal accidental injuries.

I think auto manufacturers do hold a responsibility towards the safety in driving when people go behind the wheels. The latest in-vehicle technology usually involves such techniques wherein the drivers do not really have to look on the screen to accept a call or to even do texting of messages. This ensures lesser distraction of the drivers when on roads. The text could be dictated by the driver while the application in-built read aloud the incoming texts so that the driver’s attention is towards driving only. Further, the technology is now embracing the driver’s visionary area so that the driver’s concentration is not loss at any point of time while handing the texts or calls on the smart phones especially. Even for the activities such as navigation, these in-built devices are of great help to the drivers. These are rather the anti-distraction technologies that have been built after a lot of deliberations among the auto-manufacturers regarding its safety. Interruptions are the major cause for fatal accidents world-wide. These interruptions will continue as long as there are no safer technologies brought into being to curb the same. Therefore, if these in-built technologies are not in existence, there are higher chances of accidents on roads or events alike because it is highly impossible, owing to the jet-age and the advent of internet, that the drivers, especially the youths, may not be distracted by calls, social media messages or any other text messages. GPS is also the need of the hour. Owing to all these, the car manufacturers are simply making an attempt to reduce the chances of accidents by incorporation of safer technology in the process.
