What is the difference between information technology and information systems? Describe some of the functions of information systems.
Note: Be sure to answer both parts of the question.
The difference between the information technology and information system is that the information technology is a component of the information system. Information technology is the field of study of the designing, implementing, and maintaining information systems. Information system acts a platform that helps in accommodating the information technology. Basically, we can say that the information technology is a subset of an information system.
The some of the functions of an information system are:
Storage: The data should be stored and made accessible to the relevant people. The storage should have a backup and make sure that the data is not lost.
Processing: The information system converts the data into information in this function. The end user can make a decision based on the data processed here. This will simplify the data and make the data more relevant to the end user.
Control loops: A control loop is used to keep repeating the same processes and then use the output of one step as an input for the next step in the process.
Output: The system will give an input based on the request of the user. Usually, the outputs will be in the form of graphical and textual outputs.
