Answer 1 –

Management development programs controls the development of managerial resources in the organisation for the achievement of goals and strategies of the organisation. These programs helps in providing and enhancing the skills, knowledge and abilities of the employees that enables them to contribute effectively towards the growth and development of company. Different types of management development programs are divided into two categories –

1. On the job programs - In this type of management development program, all the trainings and education for enhancing knowledge, skills and ability of managers are imparted at their work place only. They have to attend training along with the daily responsibilities of work. This include various techniques, some of them are discussed below –

· Management education – This is kind of coaching given to employees by their supervisors.

· Job Rotation - This involves shifting managers from one position to another so that they can gain experience and get familiar with various aspects of the firm’s operations.

· Under study– This involves giving training to manager by the supervisor by explaining all the roles and responsibilities of his job position where the manager could be promoted in future..

· Work assignments - It involves giving work assignments to managers for developing their skills and ability.

2. Off the job programs - In this type of management development program, all the trainings and education for enhancing knowledge, skills and ability of managers are imparted outside of their work place. Managers are required to attend training sessions outside their office space. This include various techniques, some of them are discussed below –

· Case studies – In this method, case scenarios are given to make them aware of how to react in similar real life situations.

· Seminars – Seminars are conducted to impart detailed knowledge about certain field or operation.

· Role playing – In this method, a manager is asked to play role of another employee to completely understand the work of that job position.

            There are various methods like sensitivity trainings, lectures, conferences, incident methods, etc that are used in off the job training programs.
