A truck has a cycle time of 45 minutes and will transport 8 CY each trip. The truck is being loaded by a loader with a 2 cubic yard bucket with a 4 minute cycle time per bucket with a fill factor of 1.0. What would be the maximum number of trucks to use for this project?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In order to calculate the maximum number of trucks, we find the time to fill one truck and make sure in the cycle time of a truck the loader is used completely.

Time to load one truck = Time to load one basket * Number of times a bucket needs to be used

Number of times a bucket needs to be used = Capacity of truck / (Capacity of one bucket * Fill factor)

= 8/(2*1)

= 4

Time to load one truck = 4 minutes * 4

= 16 minutes

Cycle time of truck = 45 minutes

Number of trucks filled in 45 minutes = 45/16 = 2.8125

Thus the optimal maximum number of trucks will be 3 trucks
