WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) is a feature of project planning under project implementation phase that emphasis on breaking overall project into smaller activities to be performed and provides the reference for estimating activity duration, network representation of the project, planning, monitoring and control.

Two fundamentals of WBS:

1. Work packages

Work packages are the lowest part of WBS, they can be realize with-

  • realistically and confidently estimated work.
  • Quick completion of deliverables.
  • Activities completed wihout interruption.
  • Activities outsourced or contracted out.

2. 8/80 Rule

There is a general rule that states all the Work packages should be more than 8 and less than 80 hours in time duration.

WBS is adaptable to different project classification(s) and is compatible to Agile management(customized feature).
