Answer #1

Antibiotics are the drugs that fight against bacteria and antibiotic resistance is the ability of the bacteria to resist the antibiotic drugs. This is a dangerous situation because the drug becomes ineffective in such conditions and people become prone to diseases caused by such antibiotic resistant bacteria. The main reason behind antibiotic resistance is the overuse of antibiotics and hence we should take the steps to avoid the chances of misuse of antibiotics. We can see that animal food industry is using antibiotics in farm animals to prevent diseases in the animals and also to make them grow faster so that the business can reduce the chances of loss and increase profit. When the animals are fed with antibiotics often, the bacteria would become resistant to drugs and would reach the humans through handling and consumption of animal products and physical interaction with the animals. The illness due to food practices has increased in human beings through antibiotic resistance and we should take the necessary steps to control the antibiotic usage in animal feed. It may increase the cost of food as the availability of farm animals would be reduced if we control antibiotics, but our life is precious than the cost of animals. Hence I support to have mandatory curbs on antibiotics in animal feed.
