Consumer protection is an important issue, but how much responsibility should the government have in protecting consumer? There are many products that pose a health hazard yet are legal. Choose one of the following examples and explain whether or not you think that the government should ban the product.
Cigarettes
Beer, wine or liquor
Fast food
The issue which I would like to choose is “FAST FOOD”. Everyone knows that fast food is addictive and once young people get used to having their fat, salts and sugar rich food, they will become their consumers for life.
But still this is very common, cheaper and easy to eat foods. More importantly they are easily available as well. In today’s world where people don’t have time, fast food is very common and easy way to have in dinner or specially in lunch.
Example:- you are working in the multinational company where the time lines are very strict and lunch break time is also very limited. What you gone a do, you cannot order some healthy food and wait for the waiter to deliver to you. You always go for fast food like hot dog on street or McDonald where you can have food quickly and have the lunch very fast.
So it is not wrong to value your time, so government should not ban the Fast food in the market but yes, they need to apply few basic and important guild lines to the sellers so that they will not scarifies the health of customer just to earn more profit.
This way government will able to help the people to enjoy the fast food and with that they will able manage the working of the fast food seller as well.
So that would be Win Win situation for both Consumer and sellers as well.
