Social loafing is a phenomenon in which the individual does not put his or her best while working in a tea as against working individually.

In my past organization, I was the team member of a team which was formed for dealing with the issue of increasing the market share of the company. The team consists of the many sales managers. The main objective of the team was to increase the sales of the company irrespective of the sales territory that is all the managers were given the entire market. The performance fo the managers were linked with the team performance.

In this event, one of the sales managers was not putting his best efforts and in fact most of the time he used to avoid team meeting and did not put any suggestions to increase the sales. This was completely opposite to his performance when he used to work individually. When he was given the individual targets, he was very proactive, quick to respod to various queries and showed greater interest in finding out the new methods of improving sales.

After analyzing this degradation in the performance of the sales manager, GM-Sales called this chap and asked him about the disinterested behavior of his in the team meetings and his poor efforts. GM sales explained him that it is not up to one person but the entire team to imprve the sales and it will be in greater beefit of all as with the increased saes, the company will have greater profit which could also be passed to the members of the team. Gm also explained him the importane of team building and the team work. After this counselling, the performcne an dinvolveement of that manager improved significantly.
