Animation is not used as much on the Web today as it was a few years ago. What are the pluses and minuses of having animated images on a site? What are some common file formats for animated images? Can you link to examples of the effective and ineffective use of animation?

Animation has various advantages and disadvantages attached to it which are as follows:

Advantage;

1. It makes presentation attractive

2. Better visual understanding

3. Works on the look and feel of the presentation

4. Keeps the viewer interested

Disadvantage:

1. Overdo looks childish

2. Overdo makes the viewer feel that it lacks context

3. Some cultures like Japanese, do not appreciate it

It can be effective while communicating to a larger audience, kids, official presentations but overdo of the same in official context would not let it stay on professional look and feel anymore.
