1. Transitional words are those words which are used to connect or provide a connection between ideas, sentences, and paragraphs. For example, and, to, identically.

2. A sentence is said to be simple if it contains only one independent clause and has no dependent clauses. An independent clause is a clause that has a subject and verb and forms a complete thought. For example, I went to the theatre.

3. A compound sentence is a sentence that has at least two independent clauses joined by a comma, semicolon or conjunction. For example, I went to the beach and played with my friends.

4. A complex sentence is a sentence that combines one independent clause with at least one dependent clause. For example, Although Christine had some doubts, she found the courses very useful.
