A disaster management plan is only effective if it reflects current knowledge, needs, and protocol. While it is true that these plans should be periodically reviewed and updated, how do we determine an appropriate time frame; that is, review every 6 months, every year, every 5 years? What is an appropriate review schedule that not only allows for currency, but also takes into account limited resources?
Since the world is changing, it is crucial that the community is prepared for man made and natural disasters; and hence evey 6 months help people across the world to look into the current set of disasters and practices. This will enable the teams to identify the gaps in the existing process and come up with new effective solutions. The review schedule though may sound aggressive, with an increased eemand of the resources - infrastructural and also the human resources.
