When using the formula NI = [U * (P-VCu)] - FC, in which order must you complete the calculation? Why does the order of operations matter?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

In mathematics, we use the PEMDAS rule to determine the order of operations.

P - Parentheses

E - Exponents

M - Multiplication

D - Division

A - Addition

S - Subtraction

Following the above rule, the order in which the given formula will be calculated is as follows:

NI = [U * (P-VCu)] - FC

1) V multiplied by Cu

2) VCu subtracted from P

3) (P - VCu) multiplied by U

4) F multiplied by C

5) FC subtracted from [U * (P-VCu)]

The order of operations matter as we may end up getting an incorrect answer if the correct order of operations is not followed. For example, the value of NI would be completely different if in the above equation, V is subtracted from P first and then, multiplied by Cu.

To obtain the power of the binomial test, we must find P=P(x)>75) when Mean =75.8. If X has a Laplace distribution with mean and standard deviation s, then (x-m)/s has the standard form of the Laplace distribution given in Table 0.2.1. For x<m. It can be shown that P(X>x) = .5 +.5 (1-e-Ö2ôx-mô¤s) Applying this formula to our example, we find P=P(X>75)+.682. The one-sample z-test for proportions determines the p-value using the “normal approximation method”. This method approximates the exact p-value that would have been found if the binomial formula were used. But, the “normal approximation method” only works well when the sample size is “large enough”. a. If the hypothesis test is done by hand, why do you think we use the “normal approximation method” for large sample sizes instead of using the binomial formula to find p-values? b Why do...
