1) Why didn't Barnum and Bailey create the Cirque de Soleil?

• The key reason for the Barnum and bailey not creating Cirque de Soleil was :
  • Their unwillingness to do new things
  • Inability to judge and adapt the changes that were happening around.
• Some of these changes were:
  • Increasing animal rights awareness
  • Changing labour laws
  • Changing entertainment landscape
  • Ways to have lower operating costs.
• Barnum and Bailey were not willing to change the process/strategy which brought them success in the past.
• But the process/strategy which might have made you successful in the context of past, can be irrelevant it the present and future context.
• Cirque de soleil on other hand targeted a wholly new customer segment by reinventing the way circus was seen.
• So due to lack of willingness to change and reinvent Barnum and Bailey didn’t create the Cirque deSoleil. (Which was new and reinvented way of circus).
