Answer #1

Major laws and regulations affecting human resources management in Palestine

The legal framework of Palestine is highly fragmented on geographic grounds. The regulations applicable to West Bank are different from that of Gaza. The Palestinian Labour Law No 7 is introduced with the aim of unifying the fragmented labor laws. This law has been adopted in the year 2000. The new law is made in accordance with the standards of the International Labour Organisation(ILO) and the Arab Labour Organisation(ALO). The particular law has a total of 10 different sections covering multiple human resources related matters. The major aim of the said law is to treat every employee equally and also to prevent discrimination of any kind. The law is allowing people to organize labor unions. The employees are also exempted from any legal fees on matters connected with employment-related disputes. The law prevents citizens below 15 years of age from working. The rights of women during and post pregnancy are also clearly stated. Further, the law requires the payment of severance of 30 days for each year in service. The law also permits employers to appoint a person trial basis for a period of up to three months. The law is also mentioning about sick leaves, annual leaves, etc.
