Purpose of Intranets -

1) The intranet plays a valuable role as a communication channel. It provides a holistic environment for onboarding mentoring, feedback ,recognition, networking, collaboration, HR information, HR support, knowledge sharing and more. It acts as the backbone of internal communication in the organization.

2) Internal knowledge is sensitive information which is valuable. Intranets not only provide a location for company data, but they can also keep it secure from external audiences.

3) Managing and sharing the documents is one of the most important features of an intranet.

4) It is used by corporates as a means of the culture change program. A large number of employees can discuss various issues on an open platform.

The extranet is a private network that is particularly designed to enable the individuals in an organization to communicate in a virtual space. It is open to external parties, such as business partners, suppliers, key customers, etc.

Purpose of Extranets -

1) The main purpose of an extranet is to allow users to exchange data and applications and also to share information. It serves as a location for keeping external members updated on important events occurring in the organization.

2) Extranets act as a system of engagement for business clients. It is similar to intranets. Just as intranets can increase employee engagement, extranets expand to engage individuals outside the organization.

3) It is necessary to increase business efficiency. An extranet acts as a joint project management system where responsibilities and tasks are tracked and organized.
