Question

Use practical examples to distinguish between a cross-sectional survey and a longitudinal survey.

Use practical examples to distinguish between a cross-sectional survey and a longitudinal survey.

Answer #1

Example of a cross sectional survey is finding the relationship between the people who have taken airlines membership and those who fly executive class. The cross sectional survey is done to examine the relationship between different characteristics at a given point of time. A longitudinal survey example is study of employee satisfaction in an organisation over a period of time. Longitudinal survey is done to examine the same sample over a period of time to collect data about certain variables and monitor the changes.

A bone in a woman's leg has an effective cross‑sectional area of 3.34 cm2. If the bone is 32.1 cm long, how much longitudinal compressive force ?max can it withstand before breaking? ?max= N How much will her bone compress Δ? if it is subjected to a force one‑tenth the magnitude of the force that breaks it?
