The skills required to build a successful career in supply chain management field are project management, cost accounting skills, technical understanding, problem solving, understanding of cross-cultural issues, business ethics, understanding of procurement system, good communication skills, leadership, time management, logical thinking and understanding of customer’s expectations etc.

This is an excellent list of skills that are needed in order to build a successful career in supply chain management. How can we get these skills if we believe that this is the career choice for us?

In order to develop all these excellent list of skills required for attaining success in supply chain management field I will undertake the following strategies or steps :

Training : I will get enroll myself in a training program where necessary skills such as interpersonal skills, cross cultural management skills, time management skills, leadership and all other soft and subjective skills are imparted to ensure that I instill and groom such skills in myself to get better opportunities to take up the one of the crucial role in supply chain management field. Sensitivity training, understudy, behavioral modelling and other such trainings will help me polish and sharpen these skills with necessary induction programs where these skills are practiced by trainees.

Working in teams : Team work with people from different cultures and background can help me in developing an understanding about how to work in a culturally diversified environment and how to manage such diversity.

Development programs : I wi also participate in certain skill development programs where more deliberate and hard core skills such as problem solving, analytical thinking , statistics, logical thinking, etc are developed with the help of techniques such as simulation , coaching, mentoring, job rotation etc thus helping to develop good decision making skills and managing the challenging job.

Industry professionals : Approaching and connecting with professionals belonging to same industry i.e supply chain management will help me to gain necessary and essential knowledge regarding the field such as the various ethical and legal areas it encompasses and how to comply with them, so as to better deal with them.

Course studies : In order to attain the knowledge of cost accounting, understanding of procurement system and other technical skills it us important to find relevant, short and viable courses for such which I would enroll in to gain that knowledge or skill.
