Answer #1

Answer to the question:

Many sports leagues, not only in US, but also in other parts of the world, lobby politicians to grant them exemptions to antitrust law. This enables them to create their monopoly over the events related to the particular sports. Antitrust law allows to have a healthy competition in the market between various corporate bodies and also does not allow monopoly.

However, antitrust law exemptions are important for sports leagues as it help them in negotiating broadcasting rights of the sporting events with various television networks and this generates most of the revenue for the leagues. This ultimately lead to growth of the sports across the nation with various franchisees acting under the league itself.
