Both training and development differs on various points. On one hand a Training program is directed towards developing employees' knowledge and skills which suits the job requirements. On the other hand development is not directly related with job and its requirements as in case of training but its object has a wider scope which includes generic development of the individual which is helpful in long run. Both differs on time period also. Training is a short-term process while development is a continuous process. Development is a self assessment procedure while training program can involve many people. As training is job oriented so it has a limited scope while development has a wider scope as it is career oriented.

The another difference could be that a training helps us in improving our knowledge about the current job while development intends to improve our competencies for future challenges.

Challenges :-

Both training and development faces different kinds of challenges which try to make them ineffective. The first challenge they have to face is the reluctant and non.cooperative management as most of the time these programs are not well supported by management as they consider them irrelevant and a extra expenses. Another challenge that they have to face is reluctant behaviour of employees. Lack of motivation among employees is a big challenge.

In most of the cases employees himself not want to go through training and development programs. Lack of proper trainer and training program which also includes inefficient planning is also a big challenge to the training and development programs. In most of the cases the work environment itself does not support the new behaviour learned in the training and development programs. The discrepancy between the provided training and development and job skills is also a serious challenge for them. Apart from them inaccurate training need analysis can also be a challenge to both training and development programs.
