You are a sales manager for marketing. Today, a client requested you for a product. He said he couldn't afford it after telling him the price. You know that a competitor will get it cheaper. Should you tell him about the competitor price, or would you just let him go without the need? How are you going to do? Justify your response on the ethical theories.

Answer #1

From ethical point-of-view, the manager must be ethical and inform the client regarding the availability of a similar product from a competitior manafacturer. You could specify the difference in the brand, features and quality and let the client take decision to proceed with buying the competitor's product which suits his pocket or providing offers and schemes through which your product could be affordable for the client.

Being honest and transparent with the customer would help develop the trust in you as well as your company. The client would respect your ethical approach and would definately depend on your and your firm's services and guidance for any future purchases. Besides, consumers are a source of word-of-mouth publicity which is an extremely strong marketing tool in the business world. Thus, the goodwill you generate today will help you reap benefits in the future.
