One of your closest friends, Pat, has been recently promoted to vice president of Company XYZ. Company XYZ is a thriving company that is known for being focused on task management. Pat has always found this practice unsettling and wants to change the culture of Company XYZ. Pat is well-liked and respected by peers.

The company has seen tremendous growth over the years, but the past 2 years have been trending downward. A recent employee survey has caught Pat’s attention. The survey polled employee job satisfaction and leadership satisfaction. The employee satisfaction rating was, on average, 5 out of 10, and the leadership satisfaction rating was 4 out of 10 on average. The scores have other members of management puzzled, but Pat believes that increasing these ratings could turn things around.

Company XYZ’s yearly leadership conference is a month away, and Pat has been asked to speak on achieving organizational objectives. Pat knows that you have recently enrolled in a management course and wants to hear a fresh perspective. You will see Pat next week, and you have been given a list of things to consider prior to the meeting:

Characteristics of a successful leader in -

ORGANIZATION-

Self-managing- It means able to prioritize your goal and being responsible for accomplishing objectives.

Acting strategically- A forward-thinking and open-minded approach is needed. Being flexible in your mindset and trying new approaches and ideas is needed for an organization's growth. Maintaining a positive outlook also must for a successful leader of an organization.

Setting clear goal and persistence in achieving this- For an organization to be succeeded the goal should be clear and the leader should have a perfect layout to achieve that plan. To be an effective leader he should keep going while others are tempted to throw at a towel.

Having a vision for the future- without planning for the future the organization could not succeed so to be an effective leader vision is must or needed. Being a visionary is about managing change and striking a balance between stability and growth is a talent of an effective leader. being a visionary means adaptable to change.

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT

Effective communicator- for an effective leader of department communication plays an effective role in dealing with the staff and with each department. communication is built on a steady flow of verbal and nonverbal exchange of ideas and information.

Accountable and Responsible- power and authority should be managed properly by the manager without overpowering employees. a leader should appreciate everyone in the department individually by his personality and accountable for his doing in a department.

Managing complexity- Leaders must be problem solvers who can make decisions under different circumstances. it is a vital skill for any leader. managing a department or division means daily dealing with the complexity due to various factors.

FOLLOWER EXPECT FROM THE LEADER

Trust- It builds primarily through relationship and it is very important for any organization. it also tells about behavioral predictability.

Compassion-  it is needed by a follower but most of the leaders are hesitant to be friendly relationships as this may affect work. follower wants to care for its leader.

Stability- consistency in job ensures stability insecurity about the job by an employee leads to failure of a leader to build stability among employees.

Hope- inspiration from the leader for the future build the hope among followers and this what follower expect from the leader. it requires initiatives.

LEADERS EXPECT FROM FOLLOWER

Willing to collaborate- credit of sharing ideas is very uncommon but leaders expect this from its follower.

Hard work - there is no alternative to hard work.

Dedication- a non-demanding dedication from followers for an organization is what a leader expects.

Get involved- whenever an organization needs follower involvement that is always present.
